Squeeze More Out of the System You Already Own

Before anyone sells you a new system, make sure the one you have is doing its best work. Most of these cost little or nothing.

Thermostat strategy

Every degree of setpoint matters over a long desert summer. Set it as warm as comfort allows, use schedules so you’re not cooling an empty house, and resist the urge to crank it low when you get home - the system cools at the same rate regardless; a lower setpoint just makes it run longer.

Airflow is everything

Replace filters monthly in dust season, keep supply vents open and furniture off the returns, and rinse the outdoor coil gently each spring. A starved system works harder to move less air - that’s the most common efficiency killer we see, and it’s free to fix.

Stop cooling the attic

Leaky ducts in a 140° attic can dump a meaningful share of your cooled air before it ever reaches a room. If some rooms never keep up or your bills seem high for your usage, duct sealing is often the highest-return improvement available - better than equipment upgrades costing several times more.

Shade and seal

Blackout curtains on west windows, weatherstripping on doors, and shade for the outdoor unit all reduce the load the system has to fight. Small things, but they stack.

Know when you’ve hit the ceiling

If you’ve done all this and the bills are still climbing, the equipment itself is the constraint. That’s a repair-or-replace conversation worth having with real numbers. We’ll run them free.
